I’m from the U.K. and I’m in my mid (nearly late) twenties. I work as an editor in a publishing house which means I get to speak to some pretty cool people on a daily basis.
I started dabbling in writing when I was about 11 years old, but it wasn’t until 2005 when I finally had the courage to post something on the internet.
I started out on FanFiction.net’s sister site, FictionPress, but it was FanFiction where I found my niche. There was something refreshing about playing in someone else’s sandbox (less work, probably) and sharing a passion for a fandom with like-minded people. FanFiction taught me a lot more about writing than I would have ever imagined possible. For those people out there who think it’s not ‘real’ writing, you are very much mistaken. I’ve found FanFiction tougher than original writing at times. For one, you already have a built up fan-base who probably know the characters better than they know their own friends. If something is wrong or out of character, readers will be the first to tell you. Secondly, writing plots is impossible. Anything you come up with has probably been done by someone else – and done better. Thinking outside the box becomes a necessary evil!!
I write whenever I can, but real life has a habit of putting a halt on any recreational writing a lot of the time. Luckily for me, I work in a job that allows me to also write in my professional life so I’m always putting something to paper. Although, the professional side is nowhere near as fun as dabbling in the weird and whacky stuff I usually write!
I love writing stories about family, and how those relationships survive conflict thrown at them. It’s probably the reason why I watch so many TV shows with sibling relationships in them. When I’m not writing, watching TV or banging away on Rock Band as though I’m Travis Barker, I’m usually reading something obscure.
